Embark on an extraordinary 7-day journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route, renowned for its breathtaking scenery. This exquisite trail takes you through lush rainforests, rugged ridges, and awe-inspiring glaciers, offering unparalleled views from the highest point in Africa.

Standing at 5,895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown jewel of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro National Park, celebrated as Africa's tallest peak. Climbers are drawn to its majestic landscapes and iconic glaciers, making it a bucket-list adventure.

Your journey begins in Moshi, a charming town at the mountain's base. From here, we travel to Machame Gate, the starting point of our climb.

Itinerary

The drive from Moshi to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain.

We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp.

After breakfast, journey two hours to Tarangire National Park, renowned for its golden savannah and dense elephant population. Witness herds of elephants along the Tarangire River, as well as lions, giraffes, and zebras. Discover unique creatures like agama lizards and tiny hyraxes, and marvel at the park's rich birdlife, including lilac-breasted rollers and secretary birds. After a picnic lunch and further game viewing, head to your lodge for a restful evening.

From the Shira Plateau, the trail heads east up a ridge toward Lava Tower (“Shark’s Tooth”). After reaching an altitude of 16,000ft, descend to Barranco Camp for dinner and overnight rest. This day is crucial for acclimatization.

After breakfast, travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to reach the Serengeti. Pause at the crater rim for breathtaking views before descending into the park’s vast plains. Enjoy a game drive in the Serengeti, home to lions, cheetahs, elephants, and the Great Migration. Revel in the park’s raw beauty and abundant wildlife before retiring to your lodge for the night.

Wake up to the sounds of the Serengeti and embark on a morning game drive to explore its iconic kopjes and Seronera River. Enjoy a bush lunch and spend the afternoon immersed in wildlife encounters. From predators on the hunt to herds grazing peacefully, every moment offers unforgettable experiences. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Start the ascent early in the morning, reaching Stella Point and then the summit at Uhuru Peak. After savoring the incredible views, descend to Mweka Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
